About.
Or This is a London-based studio that specialises in environmentally conscious design, offering bespoke contemporary pieces and fit-outs for businesses, private clients, and design professionals. Founded by Jason Posnot, the studio serves as a platform for creating, experimenting, and sharing knowledge about sustainable design practices.
As we embark on this ever-evolving journey, we embrace the opportunity to collaborate with new and innovative materials, and interesting people.
About Jason.
Born in Durban, Jason Posnot spent his younger years in the sea and running around barefoot outside every chance he could. It was during these formative years that he developed an affinity for nature, a passion that continues to influence his work today.
After relocating to London at the age of fifteen, he spent three transformative years navigating a new environment before moving to Cornwall to pursue studies in Sustainable Product Design.
Over the past eight years, Jason has gained extensive experience, collaborating with and delivering projects for renowned clients such as Tate Modern, Heatherwick Studio, Michaelis Boyd, Nicola Harding & Co, Walpole, Banda Property, Fred Rigby Studio, and Audo Copenhagen, among others.
Values.
Our commitment extends beyond creating beautiful designs—we strive to make a positive impact on both people and the planet.
We prioritise the use of ethical materials in every project, continually expanding our palette and experimenting with locally sourced options.
Sustainability, for us, is about more than just the materials themselves; it's also about how we utilise them. That's why we design with the ethos that our products are made to last multiple lifetimes, employing careful design approaches to ensure longevity.
Sweden, Autumn 2020.
It was this stay in Sweden which planted the seed for Or This. I stayed with a family for two months, helping them develop their house and land. Using only hand tools, and timber sourced on the property. We built a range of projects which were the genesis for some of the ideas and ethos carried forward today.
Materials.
Local hardwoods have been our primary focus due to their inherent beauty and exceptional quality. We cherish the natural grain, splits, and ‘defects’ in the wood, viewing them not as imperfections but rather as unique features that add so much character and authenticity to our pieces. This appreciation stems from our belief that every material has a story to tell, and we often see our work as a collaborative process between ourselves and the material.
In addition to wood, we have also explored a diverse range of materials such as metal, leather, and textiles, always seeking innovative ways to create sustainable and impactful designs.
Our commitment to sustainability drives us to continuously expand our material palette and explore new possibilities in our quest to create meaningful and enduring pieces.
