— Milking Stool. —

450mm L x 380mm W x 340mm H.

This stool was made as part of a furniture course from Bibbings & Hensby.

This stool is an experiment in contrasting textures.
I love working around the timber, bringing out the unique aspects the wood has to offer.

Cleaving or riving is when you split the wood along it’s fibres using wedges, mallets and other tools. Here I used a froe and mallet to split the board down the grain. Exposing some gorgeous textures. It’s also traditionally used for shingles / roof tiles. By splitting the wood open along the grain, you separate the cells of the wood from each other rather than cutting them open with a saw. This makes it much harder for water to penetrate the cells, leaving you nice and dry
